12 Neutral Rugs for a Chic and Sustainable Home

by Kymberly Lawyer | Read Time 3 min

Rugs are one of our favorite furnishings that we use to ground spaces, add color, texture, and visual interest. Plus, having something soft underfoot makes rooms feel inviting. Unfortunately, a lot of rugs on the market (94%!) use materials that are toxic to our health and are outright damaging to our environment. The culprit? polypropylene, synthetic dyes, flame retardants and all the other manmade materials used in the manufacturing process.

When you’re on a hunt for a new rug with sustainability in mind, make sure you look for natural materials such as wool, jute, cotton, sisal, and bamboo silk fibers. You can also find some performance and outdoor rugs that are created using recycled PET plastic that are durable and divert waste from the landfill! With that said, one of the greenest options you have is to source a vintage rug as they are usually made entirely of natural materials and honor traditional hand weaving techniques.

Here are some of our favorite neutral rugs that are good for the planet, non toxic, ethically sourced, and oh so beautiful!
